NEWS: New mini-drink efficacy study published.
Plant sterol enriched yoghurt mini-drinks are best consumed with a meal for cholesterol lowering.
A new study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition (Ref: 1) reports that a plant sterol enriched ‘one-a-day’ yoghurt mini-drink significantly lowers LDL-cholesterol. The effect is greater when the mini-drink is consumed with a meal (9.4% LDL-cholesterol lowering) compared to when it is consumed on an empty stomach (6.0% LDL-cholesterol lowering). This emphasises the importance of intake occasion for optimal cholesterol lowering efficacy.
The study has positive implications for people concerned about their cholesterol levels. It highlights how simply enjoying a single-shot yoghurt drink, as part of a healthy balanced meal, can bring greater cholesterol lowering results.
